Gregory Haffner, M.D.

Retina Specialist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon

Gregory M. Haffner, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retina specialist with New England Retina Associates, where he cares for patients across four Connecticut locations in Hamden, Trumbull, Westport, and Old Greenwich. He earned his medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2001, then returned to the United States to complete a transitional year internship and an ophthalmology residency at Yale-New Haven Medical Center. While at Yale, he was honored with the Marvin Sears Award for Excellence in Clinical Ophthalmology, a recognition given to a resident who distinguishes themselves in patient care. Following residency, Dr. Haffner pursued subspecialty training in retina through a fellowship with New England Retina, after which he joined the practice. He has been in clinical practice for more than two decades and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

John Huang, M.D., MBA

Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Uveitis Specialist

John Huang, M.D., M.B.A., C.P.E., is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose practice centers on vitreoretinal disorders and ocular inflammatory disease. He earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1999, completed an internal medicine internship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, and completed his ophthalmology residency at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City, where he served as Chief Resident. He pursued back-to-back subspecialty training, first as a vitreoretinal surgery fellow at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then as an ocular immunology and uveitis fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Harvard Medical School. He has been certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2005 and joined New England Retina Associates in 2016.

Erol Verter, M.D.

Retina Specialist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon

Dr. Erol Eri Verter is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon at New England Retina Associates. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Brandeis University, and spent four years conducting ophthalmology research at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, a research division of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, before earning his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his medical internship at Mt. Auburn Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital, his ophthalmology residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine, and his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at New England Retina Associates.
Dr. Verter is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. His clinical focus includes diabetic retinopathy, dry and wet age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal vascular disease, retinal tears and detachments, complications of prior eye surgery, and scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation. He holds hospital appointments at Yale New Haven Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Saint Vincent's Medical Center, Stamford Hospital, and Greenwich Hospital.

John Siano, DO

Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Retina Specialist

John J. Siano, D.O., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who completed every stage of his training in the New York and Connecticut region before joining New England Retina Associates as a partner physician. He attended Stony Brook University for his undergraduate studies and earned his osteopathic medical degree with honors from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, then went on to ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center, where he was selected as Chief Resident. He completed advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at New England Retina Associates and earned board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Siano's clinical practice focuses on the medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous, retina, and macula. He has particular expertise in macular degeneration, geographic atrophy, diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, central serous chorioretinopathy, and macular telangiectasia. He performs a wide range of surgical procedures including vitrectomy for vitreous floaters, macular pucker, macular hole, and retinal detachment, as well as the secondary insertion of intraocular lenses for complications following cataract surgery.
